Overview:
The Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Kannur on the slopes of the Western Ghats, spans over 55 square kilometers of lush, forested highlands. The sanctuary is known for its rich biodiversity and tropical, semi-evergreen forests. The sanctuary is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, sambar deer, gaur, spotted deer, barking deer, Nilgiri langurs, Hanuman langurs, and the Malabar giant squirrel, all of which are native to the Western Ghats. The sanctuary is also a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Visitors to the sanctuary can enjoy a day trip through the serene forests, with jeep safaris guided by the Eco-Development Committee (EDC) guides.
The sanctuary is open from 8 am to 4 pm, and advance bookings can be made at the offices of the Wildlife Warden in Iritty or the Assistant Wildlife Warden in Valayamchal. It’s a perfect getaway for nature lovers seeking tranquility and adventure.

3 star Accommodation in Hotel Krishna Boutique or similar. Breakfast included. Other facility/services include: 24 hours Doctor on call, Laundry services, Room services, 24 hour Hot water, Airport pick-up and drop, Cab/Taxi services.
Special Notes/Recommendations:
Parking is a serious problem almost everywhere in the town, except the beach side. Walking is not pleasant, as there are numerous noisy motorcycles, even in the narrow footpaths. Autorickshaws charge ₹30 for the first km and then ₹15 per km. Kannur follows all the traditional Kerala-Malabar food like rice, biriyanis, dosa, puttu, appam, idly, and seafoods. Stuffed mussels (Arikkadukka) are available with most of the local vendors. Kannur uses the British (UK) three-pin and two-pin circular socket that follows BS 546 at 230 V, 50 Hz. Plug adaptors are available at any hardware store. Use care if you need a transformer to convert 230 V to a lower voltage for equipment from countries where the normal power supply is 110V.
